Alan has more than 12 years of experience in loss adjusting and has been a chartered loss adjuster since 2019. He serves as a Victorian councillor for the Australasian Institute of Chartered Loss Adjusters, a position he has held since 2021. Alan joined Technical Assessing in 2024.
Alan has developed particular expertise in large and complex liability claims across the eastern states. He is known for his ability to manage claims involving multiple stakeholders – one of which involved over 1,000 independent parties and required sustained engagement with overseas reinsurers.
Alan’s background as a university lecturer and award-winning creative writer in theatre, film and music – with recognition both in Australia and Europe – gives him a unique understanding of a wide range of industries. His experience spans sectors including education, medicine, engineering, ICT, architecture and the arts, enabling him to bring thoughtful insight and analytical rigour to every assignment.
I love working for Technical Assessing because I can engage with complex claims on an end-to-end basis. Also, the team is really friendly.
My favourite leisure activity is karate. It's a great way to clear your mind – because you can't think about claims when someone is trying to kick you in the head! I'm now an orange belt, which means I have just three belts to go until I reach black.
My favourite place to visit is Scotland as I can see my family and catch up with old friends. Sad to say that folks call me "Crocodile Dundee" when I go back due to my allege accent. I am waiting on my royalty cheque from Paul Hogan!
